Update on proposed merger with Hume Bank

Hume Bank merger on track in 2026

In 2025, the Geelong Bank Board unanimously recommended a merger with 100% customer-owned Hume Bank. Following the merger, Members will experience the benefits and Member service of a larger bank with the personal touch and community focus of a regional bank. Geelong Bank members will have more choice and value with access to credit cards, digital credit cards, business accounts and business overdrafts, bridging finance, line of credit loans and insurance products. Prior to Christmas, members had the opportunity to hear directly from Hume Bank CEO, Stephen Capello, at an in-person Members' briefing. Feedback on the session and particularly Hume Bank's approach to branch banking and involvement in community support was very positive.

Awaiting approval from APRA

Following lodgment of our formal application to merge in early November 2025, the review by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has progressed at a pleasing pace. At this stage, we are on track to send the notice of the Special General Meeting in February or March 2026, with the Special General Meeting being held in March or early April 2026.

What are the next steps?

We are planning to run more members’ briefing sessions in the lead-up to the Members’ meeting. These sessions will be held at a range of different times to provide convenience to our members. Both banks are continuing to prepare for the merger so we can move quickly and ensure a seamless integration once approvals are in place.

Tell us your thoughts

Have your say on the proposed merger between Geelong Bank and Hume Bank. Your feedback helps us understand what matters to you and how we can support you best.
The survey will remain open until Friday, February 27, 2026.

Gift Card Scams

Asked to pay by Gift Card? STOP

Legitimate businesses and government agencies will never ask you to buy or pay with Gift Cards.

If someone asks you to urgently buy a gift card, and give them the 16- digit code and PIN

STOP. It’s a scam.

Scammers pretend to be people you know or from an organisation you trust. The scammer demands payment of fines, bills, goods or services using gift cards.

Gift cards are for gifts, not for payments.

If you pay someone using a gift card it may be impossible to get your money back.
